Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Utilize sonography clinical sonography expertise to instruct sonography students and impart the knowledge, skills, and behavioral characteristics needed for success in the sonography profession.
  • Work independently under the guidance of the Program Director.
  • Check for and respond to email from Students or SFCC staff at least once per day Monday-Friday. Respond to student questions within 24 hours Monday-Friday and 48 hours on weekends and Holidays.
  • A complete Canvas course with all curriculum, assignments, and tests will be created by the full-time lead instructor. The Adjunct instructor will ensure their course section is prepared at the start of each semester by updating the syllabus, contact information, due dates, and other items as needed.
  • The Adjunct instructor will attend bi-yearly DMS instructor meetings held in the evening via zoom.
  • The Adjunct instructor will grade all assignments within 7 days of submission.
  • The adjunct instructor will regularly interact with students in the course and provide clear feedback to facilitate student learning.
  • The Adjunct will maintain communication with the Program Director and will inform them of any student success or behavioral issues that might arise during a course.
  • The Adjunct instructor will conduct their course in accordance with DMS handbook and syllabus

The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Education: Associates degree required


  • Computer skills to support online instruction of students. Microsoft Office programs, as well as ease in learning new software.
  • Ability to self-direct and operate autonomously within provided guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and listening.
  • High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.


  • Two year of full time (or 4 years of part time) experience as an abdomen, OB/GYN, Adult Echo, or Vascular sonographer.
  • Current sonography certification in one or more modalities. Preference will be given to candidates with multiple certifications; particularly candidates holding RDMS (AB, OB/GYN), RVT (or RVS), and RDCS (or RCS).
  • Preference given to candidates with previous teaching experience. This may include training students in the clinical setting, such as a clinical instructor or preceptor.

Physical Requirements: * Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. There is frequent sitting, with walking, standing stooping occasionally required. There is an occasional need to lift objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Supplemental information

Standard Work Schedule: Adjunct instructors will be assigned to either fully online asynchronous courses or may be assigned on-campus supervision of scanning lab. Online course work to be completed at their convenience within established guidelines. Scanning lab hours will be completed on assigned days and times, typically 9am-3:30pm on an assigned weekday.
