Duties



  • Examine applications to see whether an insured must complete either medical or non-medical applications for conversions, reinstatements, reductions or splits of contracts.

  • Prepare correspondence to explain actions and exchange information by the use of forms and system generated letters.

  • Make determinations as to whether or not the Privacy Act permits release of certain information stored in the records system.

  • Process applications for loans and cash surrenders, and if necessary, initiates conservation procedures on waived premium policies.

  • Determine a variety of values, either by manual calculation or by reference to tables, in order to maintain insurance accounts

  • Prepare data entry inputs for all tasks that require an insurance account maintenance action.

  • Calculate length of extended insurance on lapsed permanent plan insurance contracts.

  • Apply remittances requiring calculations to insurance control accounts.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:





GS-05: Applicants must have at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS4) using the knowledge, skills, and abilities appropriate to the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as: 1) - Experience performing technical assignments in accounting, and or financial services functions in an office setting. 2) - Analyzing insurance records to prepare documents for policyholders including letters, bills, refunds, loan receipts, dividends, and credit. 3) -Processing applications for loans and cash surrenders. 4) - Utilizing calculation of values for determination of interest, premiums, loan values, cash values AND 5) - Examining applications for insurance reinstatement conversions and reduction in order to determine acceptability and referral of other insurance service actions.

Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level applicants may substitute four (4) years (120 Semester hours or 180 Quarter hours) of education above high school, in an accredited college or university. A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 90 semester hours of education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.

Note: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience you document, to include volunteer experience.

Promotion Potential: There is no promotion potential for this position. It is expected that this position will be filled at the full performance level of grade GS-6.
