Description of Work Unit

The mission of Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is to use our expertise to provide the highest standard of care for laboratory animals in support of the CSU research community. This position fulfills a vital role in the administration of LAR to carry out this mission

Position Summary

This position exists to distribute animals, materials, equipment, food stuff, and other supplies to all LAR buildings. Repair, maintain, and make modification to moveable equipment. Transport animals and biohazard materials between CSU campus facilities, vendors, corporate sponsors, and collaborating institutions. Perform various custodial job duties for LAR facilities

Required Job Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or equivalent.

  • One year of experience which includes warehousing, handling, shipping, receiving, storing, inventory, and/or distribution of goods.

  • Necessary Special Requirements: a valid driver’s license and yearly motor vehicle record reports.

  • Must be willing to complete the Colorado State University Department of Transportation Short Haul training program.

  • Staff work in various environments including outdoors, close quarters, increased heat and humidity, and dusty surroundings.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Six months experience in bio safety level 1, 2, and 3 in a research facility.

  • Experience with industrial equipment including but not limited to; tommy gates, shop tools, floor scrubbers, washers, dryers, large 2-axel delivery trucks.

  • Possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a large, multi-disciplinary team providing research support involving animal care, facilities management, and research technical services.

  • A positive attitude, a desire to learn, and the commitment to provide excellent customer service.

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Pasture Care/Maintenance


Ability to hook up, pull and back trailers, operate equipment safely around animals, repeatedly lift and stack square hay bales weighing up to 60lbs, +/- on to carts multiple times per week, ability to climb up and work on top of stacked bales of hay and straw, use hand and power tools for maintaining buildings and fences, maintain equipment, work independently and with others, ability to use pitchfork and shovel to clean up manure where the skid steer can’t access, ability to change a wheel and tire on pickup or trailer if needed, prioritize and schedule work to be done. Clean stalls and dispose of waste without destroying fencing

Filling and delivering orders for LAR facilities and contacting supervisor or staff when discrepancies are found
