The Medical Assistant performs a variety of duties related to providing patient care.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily patient care. Prepare examination rooms and sterilizing equipment
  • Room patients, obtain health history, check vital signs and perform screening tests, ABI, DPN, EKG, Spirometry
  • Administer injections and collect specimens
  • Document patient care using NextGen electronic medical record software
  • Schedule appointments, complete prior authorizations, process medication refills, handle referrals, answer calls and complete paperwork
  • Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with minor, in-office procedures
  • Monitor abnormal test results and flag abnormal one for providers attention
  • EMR (eclinicals/all scripts)
  • Pharmaceutical knowledge

Required Qualifications:

  • High School / GED
  • Minimum: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Minimum: Phlebotomy certificate
  • Minimum: Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers” (AHA) or “CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer” (American Red Cross)
  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role
  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum: 1 or 2 years of post-high school education or a degree from a two-year college
  • Over 1 year of experience in a specialty field
  • 1+ year experience in a primary care office with both front and back office experience
  • 1 year of previous Medical Assistant work experience
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred
  • Good communication skills Flexible and a Team Player
  • Need the ability to work a fast pace and multitask
  • EMR experience (eclinicals/all scripts)
