The Team Member Services Generalist (TMSG) is responsible for consulting with and advising organizational leaders and Team Members on team member relations and other related issues within an assigned client group or groups. The Generalist will assess and anticipate team member, leadership and other related needs across the organization to deliver integrated solutions. They will work with the leadership team to adapt and implement initiatives and programs to support the business, while ensuring compliance with corporate, governmental, and statutory requirements. The Generalist will serve as the internal and external face of TMS and will interface and liaison with teams in the fields of recruiting, leadership development, compensation, benefits, HRIS and legal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The TMS Business Partner will support several cross functional teams and TMS processes including:
    • Team Member Relations
    • Performance Management, Talent Assessment, and Team Member Development
    • Recruiting
    • HRIS input and updates
    • Compensation and benefits
    • Diversity and inclusion
    • Succession and attrition planning
  • Responsible for engaging and consulting with operational or functional leaders on talent, leadership, people strategy, organizational development, rewards, and culture
  • Responsible for Team Members’ communication, education, and advice on all TMS programs and systems
  • Provides excellent customer service to all Team Members by exemplifying our core value of customer obsession
  • Recommends system and process improvements for related TMS functions
  • Builds consensus and resolves internal disputes on TMS policy and practice decisions
  • Partners with Global TMS teams on special projects and assignments
  • Provides local support and guidance to execute global programs
  • Applies data, evidence-based research benchmarks, and TMS business metrics to match business decisions
  • Ensures compliance and proper application of all federal, state, and local laws, including FMLA, I-9, SOX, and FLSA
  • Ensures client understanding and compliance with applicable company policies and practices
  • Ensures all legal and employment postings are visible and current
  • Maintains and open-door policy for all Team Members
  • Support learning and development initiatives, onboarding, and candidate assessments


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 2-4 years of relevant HR experience
    • OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience

Professional Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of Human Resources concepts, practices, programs, and methodologies
  • Understands company Human Resources policies, practices, and expectations
  • Understands and is able to apply parameters of labor issues including FMLA, ADA, HIPPA, and Leave of Absence
  • Working knowledge of HRMS systems and programs
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local, Human Resources regulations, and how these affect and are applied within WFM
  • Knowledge of how people go through organizational change, change processes, change management best practice principles, methodologies, and tools
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Kronos, Workday, and other HRIS

Relationship Management:

  • Builds engaging relationships with stakeholder through trust, teamwork, and direct communication
  • Tailors communication approach to specific situations and audiences
  • Provides first point of contact for leadership and or team members’ questions
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict
  • Mediates difficult interactions; escalates problems as appropriate
  • Communicates and demonstrates support for team member services decisions even if inconsistent from own point of view

Critical Evaluation:

  • Makes sound decisions based on available information
  • Gathers, consolidates, and analytically processes information
  • Demonstrates aptitude of statistics, research methods, measurement concepts, and metrics (including turnover data, performance and compliance data)
  • Engages in preliminary analysis of collected data and reports findings to senior TMS Team Members or Team Leaders
  • Analyzes data and reports findings and trends

Business Perspective:

  • Possesses clear understanding of business objectives of Whole Foods Market and supported region / stores
  • Understand how effective people and organizational management systems can differentiate Whole Foods Market from competition
  • Understands the Whole Foods Market product mix, supply base, and retail operations
