The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant (MA) position is to provide assistance to the supervising physician and/or nurse practitioner/PA providing primary care to patients in a health clinic. Duties include taking vital signs, assisting during procedures, as well as clerical duties (answering phones, scheduling, and insurance authorizations). May be asked to work other clinics as needed.
Essential Functions include:
Taking vital signs and assisting during procedures
Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, insurance authorization, and patient registration.
Obtains and records data, including vital signs, weights, blood glucose monitoring. Collects, processes and transports body fluids for specimen analysis.
Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting. Maintains examination areas.
Under the supervision of physician or nurse, assists with performing patient assessments and treatments.
Ability to lift over fifty (50) pounds.
Recognizes and reports to the licensed care giver changes in the patient's health status, and responses to treatment, using age specific knowledge.
Maintain professional development. Maintain awareness of current unit, facility and system information. Completes mandatory educational requirements. Supports and participates in the leadership process. Recognizes own learning needs and seeks opportunities.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment, assists with transportation of patients and dietary tasks, and obtains or delivers various materials ,including but not limited to supplies, health records, lab specimens etc).
Successfully completes annual safety updates, competencies and TB testing requirements within established time frames.
Practices proper infection control techniques.
Maintains confidentiality as related to job responsibilities.
High School graduate or equivalent; Bachelor's preferred
Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy certification preferred
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
