: Journeyperson Plumber/Gasfitter preferred. Considerable knowledge/experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of commmercial gas kitchen equipment, fixtures, & accessories. Working knowledge of standard plumbing practices related to installation and maintenance of water, sanitary, gas, steam, other pipe systems and equipment. Ability to read blueprints & schematic drawings. Must pass maintenance skills test

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:


Staff in this job family provides all levels of mechanical skills trades support and maintenance of school and building equipment. Based on the assigned level, this work may include analyzing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, installing, repairing, replacing, building, prefabricating, altering and maintaining equipment related to HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, gas, plumbing, heating, firebrick and sheet metal; performing related duties as required or assigned. Supervises the Central Processing Facility (CPF) Equipment Operator. Supervision Received/Given - Under general direction from a team leader or supervisor; frequently works independently; may assist with the training/mentoring of employees in other mechanical skills trades, as assigned.



CERTIFICATE LICENSE:

Possession of a valid driver's license. Journeyman certificate, preferred. Pass MCPS written (knowledge) and skills (demonstration) tests. Equivalent certifications and/or state and county licenses, preferred.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:


Successful completion of the MCPS written (knowledge) and skills (demonstration) tests at the minimum or higher required score. Can demonstrate knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of electrical and mechanical components and equipment; good working knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn new equipment and technology requirements; knowledge of standard equipment operating systems; proficiency at use of tools associated with the trades; ability to operate in a safe working environment; possess computer skills including Internet access. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). Requirements are as follows: For MST I - skilled; proficient in one mechanical trade. For MST II - highly skilled; proficient in one mechanical trade; capable in others. For MST III - very highly skilled; proficient in two mechanical trades. For MST IV - most highly skilled; proficient in three mechanical trades



EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

High School or GED diploma required. Experience in mechanical skills trades as follows: For MST I - at least two years in trade-related work under professional supervision. For MST II - at least three years in trade-related work under professional supervision. For MST III - at least five years in trade-related work under professional supervision. For MST IV - at least seven years in trade-related work; have worked independently. Completion of certified courses, i.e., heat pump, universal refrigerant certification, cross-connection certification. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
