Specific duties and responsibilities:


  • Responsible for conducting therapeutic recreation programs in community and group settings
  • Demonstrate appropriate planning of activities and interventions which may be required to carry out activities with developmentally disabled adults
  • Knowledge of community leisure resources (pet therapy, music therapy)
  • In conjunction with ACT Counselor staff, responsible for planning the monthly activity calendar
  • Assist with preparation for special events as parties
  • Participate in care/service planning conference to insure activities are centered on personal interests and realistic physical skills/goals achievable by the consumers
  • Plan crafts, sensory enhancement, outdoor, self-care and social activities
  • Ensure activity areas are well maintained, stocked and set up for planned activities
  • Attend all in-services/meetings and other programs for facility specialization and standards
  • Provide feedback into assessments and documentation related to planned activities
  • Encourage consumers participation in programs and activities
  • Maintain a record of consumers activity participation in scheduled and unscheduled activities
  • Maintain general observation of consumers and shares appropriate information with staff
  • Follows departmental budget guidelines
  • Some computer/tech experience is required for this position
  • Other duties as assigned

Other knowledge, skills and certifications required:


  • High school diploma
  • One year experience
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of consumers or employees of organization.
  • Be creative - implement new ideas
  • Prior experience in managing and coordinating activities in a partial care and/or long term care setting is preferred
  • Experience working with consumers with varying levels of cognitive functioning is desired
  • Musical or artistic talent is a plus
  • Flexible work schedule and patience required.
  • Communicate effectively and manage conflict in a positive manner
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Experience working with developmentally disabled adults
