Desk Attendants will work as a receptionist at the front desk and/or as a reference assistant in the secure reading room
Front desk duties involve:
- Greeting patrons and visitors
- Directing telephone calls and communications for staff
- Monitoring the exhibition galleries
- Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for a wide range of library users
Reading room duties include:
- Assisting patrons
- Monitoring use of materials from the library’s collection of rare books and manuscripts
- Responding to in-person and email reference inquiries
- Training will be provided
- Other occasional duties and projects as assigned
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
Experience working in a library or museum setting.
Experience in a customer service role.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Reliability, punctuality, maturity, and keen attention to detail.
Comfortable and confident in a position that requires frequent interaction with the public.
Able to adjust to varying priorities and pace.
Interest in special collections or rare books and willingness to learn about the history and functions of our library.
Working Conditions / Demands
Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without accommodation. Some Saturday shifts will be required.
