Job Description

The Western Digital System Integration Test (SIT) Lab located in Rochester, MN is seeking an engineer with three or more years of experience for the position of System Integration Test Engineer. Western Digital’s SIT Lab performs storage, sub system, and device level testing on Western Digital's entire enterprise product line.  The SIT Lab is a highly interactive and dynamic environment where engineers work closely with Development, Customer Technical Support, Marketing, and Customers.


  • This position is on a team that verifies the compatibility of Western Digital storage drives in enterprise customer system environments. 
  • System integration test engineers work closely with development engineering and customer technical support to ensure the quality of the product's design and to verify the product works flawlessly in the customer's systems.
  • System integration test engineers are responsible for configuring customer systems for test, then monitoring and analyzing drive logs, system logs, bus signals, etc. to determine test status.
  • Problems are then isolated, analyzed, and documented as they occur. The engineer may be responsible for developing and maintaining test scripts and automation.
  • Responsibilities also include the creation of test schedules, writing reports, and communicating written and verbal status.



  • Qualified candidates will have earned a BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science and three or more years of professional experience including operation of complicated computer systems.
  • The candidate is someone who can manage impromptu test scheduling and reallocation of test resources on the fly.
  • The candidate shall have the ability to perform detailed failure analysis and independently investigate system hardware and software issues to determine root cause. 



  • Application-level programming (Java, C++, C#, Python, etc)
  • Application-level scripting (Perl / Tcl / etc.)
  • Ability to understand and debug interface protocols (SATA, SAS, NVME)
  • Windows and UNIX / Linux server storage environments
  • Willingness to take on complex problems and investigate
  • Organization and the ability to plan ahead
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Comfortable with speaking about technical topics with customers and or internal entities
