The Jeff Rouse Swim and Sports Center is accepting applications for Swim Instructor Coordinator. The Swim Instructor Coordinator manages swim instructors and the private/semi-private and group swim lesson program within the Jeff Rouse Swim and Sport Center. The Swim Instructor Coordinator oversees the swim lesson program and instructors to ensure all lessons are executed enthusiastically, safely, and securely within the guidelines of the JRSSC. This position also teaches lessons as needed. The Swim Instructor Coordinator reports directly to the Aquatics Director.

Located in Stafford Virginia, the Rouse Center (JRSSC) is a state-of-the-art 76,000 square foot facility that houses a 50-meter competition pool with movable bulkhead and seating for over 800 spectators, a 25-yard recreation pool, a warm-water wellness pool, a group exercise studio, fitness floor, a full-size basketball court, and a full-service cafe to serve guests.

The Rouse Center offers cycling, a variety of group exercise classes, swimming lessons, and lifeguarding. The center offers league play for adults in volleyball, basketball, Lil’ Kickers soccer for children 18 months to 9 years, summer camps, clinics, classes, a J-Club kids’ area for all those active kids ages 10 weeks to 12 years old.

The Jeff Rouse Swim and Sports Center is managed by Eastern Sports Management (ESM) based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. ESM’s management portfolio consists of venues in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.


  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the swim lesson program

  • Provide excellent guest service for swimmers and their families

  • Supervise swim lessons and swim instructors

  • Create, implement, and manage swim instructors’ schedules

  • Ensure all classes begin and end on time

  • Ensure equipment used in lessons is clean and organized

  • Assist instructors with any difficult situations and lessons as required

  • Ensure display of clear signage relating to swim lessons

  • Acknowledge and/or resolve client suggestions and/or complaints

  • Evaluate the quality of swim lessons

  • Maintain the swim lesson bulletin board and swim instructor bios

  • Report incidents, inquiries, and complaints to the Aquatics Director

  • Participate in regular in-service trainings

  • Prepare course curricula that is appropriate for designated class age and skill level

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the Aquatics Director and/or the General Manager

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:

  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent


  • First Aid

  • Must be willing to obtain a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and/or CPR Instructor within the first 6 months of employment.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). A minimum of 1-year swim lesson experience is required.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English is required. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English is required. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees is highly desired. Spanish language proficiency is highly desired.

Computer Skills: Proficiency using a Windows-based computer workstation is required. Proficiency in using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.) is highly preferred. Proficiency with peripheral devices (printers, scanners, cameras (still and video), and barcode scanners) is preferred.
