Role Summary/Purpose


The Engineering Finance Analyst will be a critical position within the Freight Equipment & Services and HQ CTO Engineering finance team. This role will take ownership of the groups shopwork and functional cost base approvals. You will work closely with the engineering section and sub-section leaders, the engineering operations team, and the rest of the engineering finance team to help manage approved engineering work scopes in the shopwork tool and across all other purchase orders in Oracle.


Essential Responsibilities


The Engineering Finance Operations Analyst should demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, budgets and processes for the engineering function in interactions with P&L and engineering teams. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives, and coordinate timely and accurate charge approvals with multiple requestors on a variety of cost types that affect short-term and some long-term business goals.


In addition you will:


Manage the availability of active & approved shopwork funding charge codes through the Shopwork tool


Oversight of the final approvals vs. budget to allow authorized project spending to begin


Ownership of ~$200MM+ yearly engineering spend across shopwork and other functional cost approvals


Ensure active shopwork projects have a corresponding line item in the approved engineering budget


Drive performance and consistent reporting of engineering shopwork spend and support the quarterly SOX control documentation


Serve as solution delivery expert for the design and implementation of simplification & process enhancement projects


Maintain effective working relationships with peers and operational customers to seamlessly integrate into the overall strategic objectives and activities of the organization


Support, advise, assist, guide and resolve problems for operational teams


Ensure conformity to financial standards and practices and assist in the validation of a requests classification in the proper accounting cost type


Assist in the monthly and quarterly close activities while looking for opportunities for automation


Act as a change agent for business processes


Qualifications/Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a financial position
