About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. Responsibilities



  • Serves as a Lead Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) in the Managed Care Division, Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point, New York.
  • Enters, manipulates, and/or retrieves information and data from the Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Automated Call Distribution system and various automated systems as appropriate to area assigned.
  • Schedules and coordinates appointments for patients with various clinics, ensuring all treatment requested by the physician has been scheduled, and reschedules appointments when necessary.
  • Receives patients via telephone calls, as the initial point of contact, ascertaining the nature of call, obtaining identifying information, and determining the nature and urgency of the patient's request.
  • Performs a variety of other support and clerical duties, e.g., compiling data for reports.

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) providing administrative support functions in a medical facility; (2) scheduling appointments for patients/customers; (3) inputting and/or retrieving data from automated software programs/systems; and (4) instructing and/or leading others in the performance of assigned tasks/duties. This definition of specialized experience is equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service.


PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT (OFFICE AUTOMATION): This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
