Key Responsibilities



Conduct CAE analyses such as vibration, modal, thermal, and other studies as required to support product development

Perform necessary analysis support such as meshing and any other model preparation where appropriate

Assignments may include programs with new customers, the introduction of new technology

Work closely with Product Development, New Technology and Program Management Teams to ensure milestone attainment to customer expectations

Provide robust design methods to minimize prior failure modes, and when necessary provides technical leadership/direction to resolve issues

Develop and enforce design standards driving cost advantages to BOM Standards

Maintain lessons learned database and ensure Product Engineers and Designers follow

Consults with engineering personnel/management to provide recommendations for the improvement of existing products and processes

Maintains affiliations with appropriate professional and technical groups

Supports critical design reviews. Align product designs to manufacturing capabilities and escalate if alignment to customer expectations is not present

Plans and facilitates correlation testing as required. Records, analyzes, and reports data to appropriate engineering groups

Provide on-going feedback to CAE staff as it relates to performance against expectations (positive and/or improvement opportunities)

Conducts effective and efficient technical presentations, which may involve design, engineering, internal/external customers, suppliers, etc

Assists Product Engineers with SOR's, material selection, test plans

Knowledge and execution experience as it relates to APQP, PPAP, FMEA

Ability to build relationships with the Product Development teams and the customer

Ability to drive accountability to Product Engineers through structured requirements

Demonstrates focus on meeting program commitments and enforcement of work plans where timing is not achieved

Key Qualifications/Requirements



Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; Master’s Degree preferred

5+ years in an automotive engineering environment with progressive advancement earned in terms of knowledge and responsibilities

Demonstrated ability to work successfully in an integrated product development team

Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals (e.g. engineering thermodynamics, fluids and mechanics)

Understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, DOE, DFM

Knowledge and competency in CAE tools such as Hyperworks, ABAQUS, NASTRAN, StarCCCM+, nCODE

Experience with diagnosing and solving thermal and vibration problems using experimental and analytical resources Special Skills / Personal Attributes



Identifies needs for software and hardware tools to accomplish objectives

Support the lighting design and development activities through careful analysis and recommendations

Support the material library for commonly used materials

Utilize current procedures, regulations, and customer and industry requirements to conduct CAE Analysis

Ability to work with staff at remote locations and track progress against established project timelines and milestones

Effective communicator with exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills

Productive mentor for Engineering staff

Possesses continuous improvement mentality with regards to product development, analysis, methodology, etc

Independently seeks to implement solutions that facilitate a more effective design process, such as design guidelines

Is proactive in the development and implementation of new methods and analyses to minimize design changes required

Independently formulates and implements cost savings to product and process

Physical Demands



Physical Demands – Normal amount of sitting and standing; Ability to move around an office environment and on the production floor; Ability to work at a computer workstation; Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach. Required to carry out job duties and responsibilities in a work environment that may include, but is not limited to, varying levels of noise and/or temperature. Ability to lift max. 50lbs periodically
