Job Description

Job Summary

Assists in the preparation, performance and dictation of human specimen dissection. Also, assists in the preparation and performance of human post mortem examinations.

Essential Functions

  • Performs gross examination on tissue specimens and provides dictation by observations
  • Responsible for the overall assurance that all specimens are processed in an adequate and satisfactory manner, they are labeled properly and that all paperwork is accurate and complete
  • Responsible for communicating any problems encountered with specimens to the correct unit, department or office
  • Reviews and arranges patient chart information for review with the pathologist during autopies
  • Assists in the preparation and performance of post-mortem dissections and autopsies. Documents observations and processes
  • Registers, accessions, processes specimens / tissues as needed
  • Photographs surgical / autopsy sites, as requested
  • Releases bodies to appropriate location
    • Required Bachelor's Degree from an accredited NACCLS Pathologist Assistant Program is registry eligible OR ASCP
    • CRT-Pathologist Assistant - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology
