      Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager and Registered Nurse. The Unit Coordinator's primary job function is to perform clerical duties associated with preparing, compiling, and maintaining patients' records in the Emergency Department. Coordinates functions for the Transfer Center. May be required to work on other nursing units. Supports each strategic value by providing exceptional care to those we serve. Performs other duties as assigned
    • Education:

      • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
      • Ability to read, write, and speak English required
      • Working knowledge of medical terminology required
    • Licensure:

      • None

    • Experience:

      • Six months of healthcare related experience preferred
    • Interpersonal Skills:

      • Good interpersonal skills needed in dealing with nursing staff, physicians, patients, families, and other members of the health care team
    • Essential Technical/Motor Skills:

      • Precise hand/eye coordination to input/transcribe physicians' orders into a computer in an accurate and timely fashion. Ability to speak clearly in regards to questions about physicians' orders, etc. Legible handwriting
    • Essential Physical Requirements:

      • The physical demand is light to medium. Occasionally lifts 20 pounds or less when transporting patients' charts and supplies. Stands or walks with regular breaks one to four hours per day when filing, photocopying, and running errands. Sits for five to eight hours per day with regular breaks when performing relevant clerical duties, such as transcribing physicians' orders and maintaining patients' charts. Ability to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, fine manipulation, and pushing and pulling when performing clerical assignments, including transcribing and patient charting, answering telephone, filing, and maintaining unit supplies. Bends, squats, climbs, and reaches above shoulder level occasionally when storing and retrieving supplies and filing
    • Essential Mental Requirements:

      • Has occasional contact with the general public and customer when relating to patients' families and customers when performing all aspects of job. Must be able to cope when occasionally working under close supervision and without the assistance of other personnel. Requires the ability to frequently concentrate and pay close attention to detail when transcribing physicians' orders and maintaining patients' charts. Must also frequently cope with deadlines under pressure
    • Essential Sensory Requirements:

      • Good vision is required when transcribing physicians' orders and maintaining patients' charts. The ability to communicate effectively is required when gathering and exchanging information with physicians, patients, visitors, and various hospital employees

      • Transcribes and processes physicians' orders.
      • Orders tests, treatments, medications, and supplies.
      • Maintains patents' records.
      • Functions as a communications source for the nursing unit.
      • Records data, reports, and enters patient charges and other information.
      • Welcomes and greets those coming on the unit.
      • Uses telephone etiquette following the SOMC's Code of Conduct.
      • Performs Transfer Center coordination.
      • Performs dailly PICIS checks
      • Wears Vocera Badge for CareView Monitoring and communication with nursing staff.
      • Performs other job duties as assigned.
