We are looking for a Wound Care Nurse for the Nursing Administration at St. Mary Medical Center.


Location: Apple Valley , CA


Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours


Shift: 10-hour, Evenings


Job Summary:


Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Excellence, the Wound Care Nurse serves as the clinical resource and consultant for wounds of acute care of patient population. This nurse will focus on patients at risk for or with selected integumentary system conditions, such as complex draining wounds and pressure ulcers.


Essential Functions:


  • Provides specialized nursing care for the patient with a pressure related wound including but not limited to assessment/reassessment, planning, delivering and evaluating care.
  • Properly stages all pressure ulcers within 24 hours of identification.
  • Reassesses all pressure ulcers regularly (no less than weekly).
  • Collaborates daily with primary RN on all patients with pressure ulcers to assure plan of care is appropriate and updates plan of care when necessary.
  • Provides clinical direction to the staff in the care and ongoing management of wounds in accordance with their scope of practice by:
  • Identifies learning needs of staff.
  • Utilizes opportunities for incidental and informal teaching.
  • Develops education programs and learning needs.
  • Provides education to patients, family and nursing staff regarding prevention of and care of pressure related wounds, complex non-pressure related wounds and ostomies.
  • When possible, participates in with the planning of care of patients with ostomies or complex wounds (non pressure related).
  • Participates in data collection of quality improvement/research projects or QA notices and participates in problem solving opportunities to improve care when identified.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to the specialty.
  • Recommends standards for cost-effective supplies/equipment related to wound, ostomy, and incontinence care to be utilized in the hospital through evaluation and product research studies.
  • Participates in various committees as requested by Director.
  • Assists the nursing and medical staff in maintaining current knowledge and competence in the areas of ostomy and wound management, skin care and incontinence through:
  • Review of current literature.
  • Education.
  • Clinical rounds.
  • Orientation sessions.
  • Product displays.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for:
  • Instructing patients and families.
  • Communicating complex theoretical and technical concepts to all levels of personnel.
  • Promote problem-solving and resolving conflicts.
  • Mentoring of staff.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively present written and verbal information.
  • Application of safety principles when performing duties.

Minimum Position Requirements:


Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Coursework/Training - Wound care training course leading to certification as a Wound Care Certified Nurse.

Experience: 3 years Experience as a RN in a healthcare setting.


Licenses/Certifications:


  • Current California RN License.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Current certification as a Wound Care Certified Nurse (WCCN) or Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse certification (WOCN).

Preferred Position Qualifications:


Education: Master's Degree in related field.


Experience: 2 years Acute care ET experience.
