The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the supervision and day to day oversight of the operations of the PI/Lab Head laboratory and organization of research projects within the laboratory. Lab Manager will be responsible for the oversight of quality control of all experiments performed under the guidance of the Center Director/Lab Head/PI. Responsible for managing and planning for all equipment maintenance and service contracts. Incumbent will be responsible for study setup as well as interaction with PI, collaborators, research cores, and study team members in order to ensure accuracy and high quality. Research Lab Manager is responsible for maintaining procedures and training documents for lab. Must be able to interpret, analyze, and extract key information from lab manuals and have an understanding of laboratory terminology, practice and workflows. Lab management duties include providing training for technologists, maintaining inventory, preparing and reviewing new assay procedures, and taking a lead role to ensure compliance with Research Lab policies and Standard Operating Procedures. The individual will be responsible for participation in departmental Quality Improvement initiatives, engagement initiatives, and bio-safety monitoring as well as other duties as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise daily operations and lab staff in order to prioritize experiments, operation of all instrumentation, and supply inventory.
  • Coordinate experiments, as appropriate, with other laboratories as needed.
  • Establish and update policies and lab SOPs.
  • Promote laboratory services to scientific and medical community as indicated.
  • Assist PI/Lab Head/Director in the preparation of presentations for scientific meetings, describing research methodology and results; preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; and preparation of grant applications.
  • General duties include acquiring and logging in samples, and planning, performing, interpreting and resulting experiments.

Additional Responsibilities

Read and interpret peer-reviewed publications for application to current methodologies. Attendance at seminars, journal clubs, lab meetings and other educational activities. Serve on designated department committees and work groups at the discretion of the Director and/or Research Leadership. Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.


  • Master's degree required
  • Relevant lab management experience required
