SUMMARY:





We are looking for a Subject Matter Expert to work under the Associate Director of Science (ADS) as part of the Epidemiology Task Force ADS team. The focus of this work is to provide COVID-19 subject matter expertise in the review of documents and proposed publications, and input into the development, revision, and review of epidemiologic and vaccination-related guidance, policy, communications, Web, and other documents developed within NCIRD, COVID-19 Epidemiology Task Force (VTF), and the larger CDC COVID-19 Response. The position is formally located at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Roybal Campus in Atlanta, GA. The CDC is the nation's premier health promotion, prevention, and preparedness agency

This is a Part-Time position that is funded through May 31, 2022 with the potential to extend past May 2022



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in the CDC clearance process at the Task Force or Unit level to review, provide input and make recommendations on clearance approval for program-related guidance, policy, communications, Web, scientific manuscripts, and other response-related documents generated within the Task Force and received for cross clearance from outside of the Task Force
  • Assist in the development of communication materials for health care providers, public health partners, community leaders, and pregnant women and families such as fact sheets, rollout plans, webpage materials, and public response texts
  • Review and provide input to documents submitted to clearance, to ensure their scientific accuracy and that they are consistent with current Epi Task Force/ larger COVID-19 Response policy
  • When the above communication materials are completed, ensure appropriate clearance guidance process is followed and materials are appropriately moved forward.

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:



  • Experience serving as a Scientific or Medical Officer with expertise in epidemiology
  • Experience reviewing scientific and epidemiologic documents and recommending acceptance and/or approval.
  • Experience in the preparation of scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, and scientific presentations, including through technical review and clearance
  • Experience with scientific review and clearance of guidance, policy, communications, and Web documents developed for scientific community, public, US Government and international agencies
  • Experience in scientific writing and editorial support


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • M.D. or PhD with at least 10 years’ experience in Epidemiology or Public Health
  • Experience in writing, reviewing, and/or editing scientific products (e.g., peer reviewed manuscripts, study protocols, MMWR’s etc.)
  • Experience in the process of writing scientific publications at the level of an investigator with both first author and co-author publications
  • Prior experience with CDC in a similar capacity is highly desired but will consider experience with NIH and/or FDA, or similar.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Public Trust Clearance

PREFERRED:



  • Prior experience working with/at CDC in epidemiology is desirable; experience in infectious disease, respiratory disease, viral disease, and/or vaccine preventable diseases is helpful but not critical
  • Experience performing peer review for scientific journals
  • Formal training in clinical medicine is desirable but not critical
  • Relevant experience working with infectious diseases and immunizations
  • Experience with scientific review and clearance of COVID-19 Response manuscripts, MMWR, and ACIP documents
  • Experience working with MMWR senior staff on MMWR publications
  • Experience working on public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic
