Under the supervision of the Helping Hands Business Development Manager, the Home Companion provides services that meet the individual needs of the client. These services are designed to enable the client to retain a sufficient level of health and personal hygiene and to complete the necessary activities of daily living

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience in home care, particularly with minimally dependent elderly, frail elderly, and dementia residents. Candidates must have a genuine desire to work with the elderly or disabled, fluent English speaking and writing skills, empathy and the ability to listen, good time management skills, and a professional appearance and demeanor.



RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures client safety in the home
  • Notifies the Manager of any change in a client’s physical or mental condition
  • Accompanies clients on social, medical, and personal outings
  • Prepares meals and nutritious snacks; prompts clients with morning and evening routines, including grooming/dressing; performs light housekeeping duties, including cleaning, bed making, laundry, and pet care
  • Provides companionship and stimulates cognitive abilities through discussion, entertainment, and other activities
  • Offers reminders regarding the taking of medication and the filling of prescriptions
  • Attends all safety-related in-service classes as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and follows all company safety programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned



QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in home care preferred, particularly with minimally dependent elderly, frail elderly, and dementia residents
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times angry people
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner
  • Must function independently and have flexibility; personal integrity; and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
