TITLE: Computer/Network Technician

Position Purpose: This position is responsible for providing complex support and day-to-day assistance to administrators, staff, and students with regard to computer and network technological needs. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control; performs all other related work as required.

Flexible schedule
- Due to the necessity to complete some work during times when school is not in session, the Technician will need to work at various times of the day and the starting and ends times may change based on the demands of operations.

Education, Training, and Experience:

Technical certifications such as Network+ or A+ certification

Microsoft certifications such as MCSA, MCP,

Experience with a work order entry system and inventory system

Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)

Competency and experience in Windows Environment

Experience in Desktop Management (ex: Intune), TCP/IP, File/Print Sharing, Switches, and Web based technologies

Essential Functions

  • Installs and maintains network backbone and wiring necessary to interconnect computers throughout the district.
  • Installing and troubleshooting computer hardware throughout the district.
  • Upgrades existing hardware with new components.
  • Manage and maintain Microsoft Servers.
  • Install Software applications and creates documentation for the procedure.
  • Work with students, instructing on proper cabling techniques, PC troubleshooting, and hardware diagnostics.
  • Support employees in resolving problems with IT, AV and communications systems
  • Record events, problems and resolutions in the IT request database.
  • Assist in evaluation and testing of software / hardware in planning for future needs
  • Responsible for the configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of electronic communications systems including but not limited to district video display systems, projection, audio systems, teleconferencing solutions.
  • Install media equipment such as projectors, speakers, TVs, video monitors and cameras working with district support personnel and approved contractors.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on AV systems and equipment (Replace bulbs, clean filters & lenses, make minor adjustments, etc.)
  • Provide in-person direct support for district staff using technology
  • Educate users on A/V best practices
  • Serve as escalation point to help desk / IT technicians.
  • Manage iOS devices through MDM solutions
  • Manage Chrome devices through Google Admin Console
  • Manage application deployment to mobile devices
  • Maintain a clean and accurate inventory of technology items
  • Staff and student account maintenance.
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Skills and Abilit

Knowledge: Knowledge of LAN/WAN networks, TCP/IP protocols and network technologies. Knowledge and experience working with common software and hardware. Experience performing troubleshooting to system failures to ensure long term efficiency of networks.

Skills and Ability: Ability to Consult and collaborate with Technology Department members. Be able to Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures. Must possess an Aptitude to learn new and implement new technologies as they are introduced into the district. Ability to communicate effectively, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all school employees, students, teachers, parents, and vendors, ability to recognize school-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions, occasionally under time pressure. Be able to Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with building personnel.

Supervision Scope: Performs routine duties that are clearly defined by protocol and standard

operating procedures. This role requires basic knowledge of departmental operations.

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Information Technology and Digital Learning Director.

Supervision Given: None.

Job Environment:

Work is performed under typical office/school conditions; environment is moderately noisy. Operates a computer, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, and other standard office equipment. Interacts with other school staff, teachers, students, parents, and vendors. Has access to department-related confidential and/or sensitive information including student records, financial records, the disclosure of which would cause a significant breach of trust and seriously damage the reputation of the school.

Errors in judgment could result in hardship to the students and the school, lower standards of service to the community, monetary loss or legal repercussions and possible negative public relations for both.
