Job Standards
The Office of Public Utilities, Electric Division is seeking an individual to receive direction from the Unit 4 Control Room Operator and assist in maintaining safe, efficient and reliable operational control of the generating unit in the absence of the regular Unit 4 Floor Operator; perform hourly inspections on all equipment as assigned for Unit 4 generating unit, which may include, but is not limited to, turbine, boiler, environmental (FGDS, SCR, baghouse, precipitators), pumps, circulators and cooling tower, lube and seal oil, mills, feeders, slag tanks, and ash handling; maintain proper lubrication of all assigned equipment; and report any upsets or unfavorable conditions in writing to the Unit 4 Control Room Operator. This position requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a high school diploma or GED, progression in and/or completion of a four year Utility Operating Engineer apprenticeship program, operational knowledge and experience of the equipment at the power stations and a valid Class D driver’s license. Must have the willingness to continue to develop skills and abilities through on-the-job/classroom training and shift work. Apprentices will be reclassified as Relief Operators upon successful completion of the Apprentice Program. Please note that a short aptitude test will be conducted following the initial interview. Current employees (where applicable) and persons hired or rehired after 1-1-17 shall maintain their bona fide residence within the corporate limits of the City of Springfield during all periods of service. Newly hired or rehired employees have 12 months from date of hire to establish city residency.
