Purpose of Position


THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL POSITION/S HAVE BEEN FILLED.


Why does the job exist?


Perform ancillary and skilled nursing billing and financial transactions in the fiscal department in a long term care facility, to enter billing data into the computer, to maintain client insurance records in files on the computer, log payments on the computer, enroll clients into various insurance programs. Assisting residents, and resident families, in doing Medicaid applications and recertifications. Provides excellent customer service at all times. Operates trust fund duties to include, but not limited to, greeting residents, providing account balances, disbursing money, receipting money.


How does it get done?


Reconciling EOB's with payments received. Using PointClickCare software to input data and track resident trust balances, room and board fees, other billing, etc. Use SHARE FINANCIAL, VersaCheck, and QuickBooks software for accounting and record keeping of resident funds to ensure accuracy and transparency. Coordinate, develop, and provide professional customer service and clerical duties. Provide quality service for inpatient residents and outpatient clients. Prepare and process documents for in/ out patient clients. Provide assistance to management, employees, and other health care facilities regarding insurance issues, post ACH deposits for payment of room and board fees. Take bank deposits daily. Create checks per resident request. Disburse money per resident request and maintain daily cash log.

The primary customer are the brave men and women that answered our nations call, executed their duties and now are unable to live in their respective communities due to failing health. This job will also support the widows of the service men and women to include parents that have lost children in combat (Gold Star Parents)


Ideal Candidate


Associates Degree in Accounting, Auditing or Business Administration or at least two (2) years of related experience. Knowledge of cultural diversity.


Minimum Qualification


High School diploma or Equivalency and one (1) year experience in bookkeeping, accounting and/or finance. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements


Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license




Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.



Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act, (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.



Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.


Working Conditions


Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.



The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Walking throughout the facility and frequent interaction with residents, staff and the public may be required. Health hazards may include routine exposure to resident illness, stressful situations and bodily fluids, as well as exposure to physical and/or verbal abuse. Occasional travel to attend training and meetings may be required. Essential functions of the job and physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico State Veterans' Home Human Resources Office.
