Job Description

Avery Dennison is looking for an Operations Manager for the Reflective Solutions business based in North America, focused on the traffic and safety industry. This role is referred to internally as Business Unit Manager. In this role, you will lead operations team members in a three shift manufacturing environment at our Mt. Prospect, IL plant. You will work in close partnership with the Operations Leadership Team,  Supply Chain, and  R&D,  You will work under the leadership of our Regional Plant Manager who is also  based  in Mt. Prospect.. To be successful, you should have a strong aptitude for inclusive relationship building,  personable leadership that is consistent with Avery Dennison Values, and a real passion for collaborative work in a team-based environment.  

The Operations Business Unit  Manager will also drive engagement in a diverse workforce in order to meet safety, quality, production, and cost objectives, while overseeing the day-to-day operations. In this role, delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:

Employee Development & Management

  • Manage all three shifts of the operation

  • Train and provide development opportunities for the team. 

  • Ensure annual goals are complete and communicated. Monitor and evaluate team members, and adjust training where needed. 

  • Perform general management duties, conduct performance appraisals, promotions and terminations. 

  • Positively lead and influence team members to partner together to achieve individual and business goals. 

  • Coordinate team efforts, create and manage a regional strategy and team operating plan.

Operations Management

  • Oversee the practice of all health and safety procedures, ensuring that safety is employees' top priority. 

  • Lead a safe operation of the business unit and comply with legal and corporate safety requirements. 

  • Drive execution of site improvement plans and help set operations improvement goals. 

  • Analyze and draw information for long-term strategic change and improvement for multiple teams/shifts. 

  • Lead significant projects and improvement initiatives, scheduling and planning, budgeting and control. 

  • Ensure that manufacturing team members meet site goals and objectives. Participate in the establishment of sites’ annual operating plans.


What you will need to bring to the team:

Avery Dennison has a long history of being a market leader. Your history is important to us. It should include the following:

  • Bachelor degree required with 5+ years Operations/Manufacturing experience with 3+ manufacturing leadership experience.

  • Leadership experience with the ability to motivate, coach, influence and build relationships in a team-based environment.

  • Results driven with a focus on continuous improvement with working knowledge of modern manufacturing, material flow and improvement strategies (e.g. Enterprise Lean Sigma, continuous flow, etc.) and a demonstrated ability to integrate those into the operation.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop and grow individuals.

  • Excellent organizational and people skills, project management skills, with an ability to openly convey information to team members in a timely, concise manner.
