The Boeing Company is looking for an Investment Strategy Principal based out of Hazelwood, MO; Menlo Park, CA; El Segundo, CA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; or Washington DC, DC

The Applied Innovation Team picks up where Boeing HorizonX left off, bringing outside-in innovation into Boeing from within the Enterprise Technology Office (ETO). This Investment Strategy Principal will report to the Emerging Capabilities Manager.


The Emerging Capabilities team is responsible for sourcing and scouting innovative technologies from outside the Boeing Company that complement or satisfy current needs around the Enterprise through investment in startups and partnerships with external companies.


This responsibility starts with understanding the technology gaps, needs, and discriminators from all three Boeing business units, and applying strategy tools and analyses to understand how to prioritize these needs based on market/industry trends, internal make/buy decisions, and the external capabilities of new investment and partnership candidates. The Investment Strategy Principal will conduct market analyses, develop strategy and roadmaps, and make product/technology decisions.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Lead the identification and prioritization of technology gaps and needs across the Enterprise


  • Lead the identification of market trends, research, and analysis to understand disruptive technologies


  • Lead identifying and prioritizing of highly disruptive, innovative tech startups for investment and/or established partner companies for collaboration


  • Lead assessment of investment candidate companies in close collaboration with business units and functional authorities


  • Lead communication with investment partners and candidate investment companies to finalize recommendations, provide status updates, and close new deals


  • Develop and evangelize the value proposition and strategy synthesis of the candidate technology across the Enterprise


  • Lead strategy with internal and external stakeholders


This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.


This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher


  • 7+ years of experience in business strategy, business consulting, or product strategy


  • 5+ years of experience working with multiple stakeholders (i.e. business partner, customer, finance, suppliers) in planning and executing projects


  • Experience in a role that required strong communication and interpersonal skills


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):


  • Engineering/Science Degree and/or MBA


  • Proven experience developing early product and/or strategy roadmaps


Typical Education/Experience:


Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).
